SreePVF’s Founders Honored with the inaugural Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Memorial Award

On September 2nd, 2025, the Honourable Chief Minister of Telangana, Shri Revanth Reddy, presented the inaugural Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy Memorial Award to our founders Dr. Chadalawada Sudha and Dr. Chadalawada Nageswara Rao at the Hotel Daspalla Conference Hall, Hyderabad.

This award, instituted in memory of the late Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, former Chief Minister of United Andhra Pradesh, honors his vision to uplift farmers and farming as a sustainable profession.  This year, it recognized Dr. Chadalawada Sudha Rao and Dr. Chadalawada Nageswara Rao for their outstanding contributions to natural farming through the Krishna Sudha Academy of Agroecology.  They were conferred this honor alongside Padmashri Subhash Palekar – renowned for his initiatives towards propagating natural farming in the country.

Dr. Sudha and Dr. Nageswara Rao returned from the United States, and since then initiated several philanthropic endeavours spanning the medical field and beyond.  Reflecting on their journey, Dr. Sudha notes, “During our long practice as clinicians, we were fortunate to help heal the ill, but we always felt a deep calling towards creating a meaningful impact on the large agrarian community of our country. This desire to support “Jai Kisaan” became the driving force behind the Krishna Sudha Academy”. In setting up this academy, they not only contributed financially, but also donated nearly 38 acres of land in the NTR district of Vijayawada. The academy functions under the Sree Padmavathi Venkateshwara Foundation, which invests close to 4 crores annually to support research in translational biomedical sciences and agricultural sciences in the country.

The academy is a transdisciplinary research and education centre in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. It works at the intersection of agroecology, climate resilience, public policy, hydrology, and ecology to build sustainable farming communities. The Krishna Sudha Academy integrates modern innovations and traditional wisdom, curating knowledge on organic and natural farming. Its campus hosts research facilities and training programmes that support farmers from across the country.

This award celebrates the vision of our founders and also highlights the academy’s mission —”to empower farmers, advance sustainable food systems, and ensure that farming continues to thrive as both a livelihood and a legacy”.

India is rapidly transforming into a dynamic hub of intellectual innovation and discovery. To support the science and technology ecosystem in the country, the Sree Padmavathi Venkateswara Foundation has created peer- reviewed funding programs that recognize exceptional researchers with the potential to achieve ground-breaking results in areas of critical national
importance. Our foundation provides these researchers with generous funding and empowering mentorship to generate knowledge and develop sustainable solutions of the highest quality, particularly in the fields of biomedical and agricultural research. We also work on projects to deploy advanced knowledge and improve the income of small and marginal farmers. We believe that by working together, we can create sustainable solutions that will benefit not only India but also the world.
